Q/How can I participate in this study?
The addresses will be stratified with geographical location and selected through random sampling. For each address identified, an invite letter will be sent. If there are residents aged 60 or over, please contact us to arrange an assessment.
Q/When will the assessment be conducted and how long will it last?
It will be conducted on participant’s available time and lasts about two hours.
Q/Where are the assessments conducted?
The assessments will be conducted at the participants’ home, assessment centres or specific venues convenient for the participants.
Q/What are the potential benefits?
Participants will receive a free cognitive and mental health assessment which helps them understand their physical and mental status. Each participant will receive a brief report of the assessment results and 200HKD coupon. For participant who are identified to have dementia or mental disorders but not yet assessed under clinical settings, our research team will prepare written referral letters for consultation, assessment and care at appropriate settings after obtaining the consent of the participants or their caregivers.
Q/How much does it cost?
Participant does not need to pay for the assessments, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or other body check.
Q/Who will conduct the assessments?
All the interviewers are the staff of the Chinese University of Hong Kong who are well trained.
Q/When should I reply after receiving the invitation letter?
It would be better to reply as soon as possible so that we can arrange assessment for you.
Q/Will my information be kept confidentially?
The information obtained from the research will not be published. The information collected will be used for research purposes only, and the personal data will be kept strictly confidential. Identifiable personal data will be removed and replaced with a code. The research data will be stored in a password-protected device which is only accessible to the researchers. Upon completing the publications, the relevant data will be destroyed after five years.
Q/How long would I wait for the assessment?
After receiving your reply, we will arrange assessments for you as soon as possible.
Q/How can I participate in Phase 2 study?
ONLY the participant with suspected dementia or other severe mental disorders will be invited to Phase 2. At the same time, the research team will randomly select hundreds of physically and mentally healthy participants in Phase 1 to participate in Phase 2 study as control group.
Q/What will happen if I don’t want to carry on with the study?
Participants can withdraw from the study at any time unconditionally, and it will not have effects on participants’ medical services in the future.
